The Trend for LED Street Light In Chicago

Last year, the United States launched the LED street lamp in Chicago to replace traditional street lighting. The project has lasted for 4 years. At present, 76000 street lamps have been installed in the city. The plan has been extended to the southern and western parts of the city and has played a role in the prevention and control of local violence.

Compared with traditional street lamps, LED street lamps have certain advantages in energy saving. Officials in Chicago said they expected to halve the city's street light bills and save $100 million in government spending on electricity over the next 10 years. A spokesman for the city's Rahm Emanuel Mayor's Office said the streetlight project would save about $1 million in the first year.

The traffic bureau of the city will be responsible for the implementation of the project. It plans to eliminate 270000 street lamps in four years and replace them with LED street lamps with high quality. The project mainly covers the streets, lanes and bridges of the whole city. In addition, the city is going to install a lighting management system to better manage these LED lights. A spokesman for the mayor's office said the installation of the lighting management system is expected to be completed this year.

CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeild said he was satisfied with the preliminary results of the Chicago project and believed it would provide a clearer and more reliable light for the city's community and save the government a lot of money.
