A Patient Centered Day And Night Rhythm Lamp Installed in American Hospitals

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has installed a circadian rhythm to set the sleep wake cycle for the patients.

The lighting of hospital medical behavior department will change color and intensity within a day to reset the circadian rhythm of patients.

These lights are low intensity warm colors in the morning, cold colors in the morning, high intensity in the afternoon, and warm colors at low temperatures in the evening.

It aims at relieving the disturbance of the hospital during normal sleep - the awakening cycle. In hospitals, daytime is usually not bright enough, or the night is not dark enough to suppress the natural pattern of the human body. Therefore, patients' rhythms are often destroyed in the medical environment.

The regular sleep - Awakening cycle is considered to be an important clinical tool in the medical department. The medical department treats children with medical problems, and these children also have potential behavioral conditions, such as depression, anxiety and autism.

Mary Alcaraz, a senior project manager, says that children can also color their LED lights on their beds, which can have a positive distraction effect.

The hospital did not describe this kind of luminaire as the so-called "people-oriented lighting", nor did it involve scientific research on color matching effect.

Last month, a study concluded that proper lighting of Sanatorium could improve sleep, mood and behavior in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
